Sustainability and climate change

Declaring a climate emergency

Liverpool Research Institute for Climate and Sustainability (LiRICS)

The newly-established Liverpool Research Institute for Climate and Sustainability (LiRICS) is taking a pan-university approach to research and knowledge exchange. It brings together staff and research activity from all faculties across LJMU.

Low Carbon Eco-Innovatory

The university’s Low Carbon Eco-Innovatory has helped more than 400 LCR companies to decarbonise.

We have employed experts to advise on reducing waste, energy consumption and carbon footprints. The project will run until March 2025.

National leadership in conservation

LJMU has submitted to the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings. We have outlined our commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The university is currently ranked in the top 60 UK universities. The latest submission aims to build on this success and see LJMU climb the rankings. Our efforts around sustainability, peace, prosperity and inclusivity will foster positive change globally.

National taskforce for plant species translocation

LJMU sits on a national taskforce to translocate plant species in the face of climate change.

Exemplar houses for green innovation

Our LJMU Exemplar houses are testing new green technologies. These innovations and building methods are being trialled under realistic test-bed conditions.

Diversity and inclusion

Liverpool Centre for Olympic Research on Inclusion (LCORI)

LJMU has launched the Liverpool Centre for Olympic Research on Inclusion (LCORI). The centre joins a global network and is the first to focus exclusively on inclusion.

The centre’s vision is to create a global community in which everyone is included and able to take part in society. We aim to achieve this regardless of ability, gender, ethnicity, or socio-economic background.

Positive action programmes

LJMU’s commitment to diversity and inclusion is demonstrated through targeted Positive Action Programmes. They provide young people from various backgrounds with valuable training and career exposure.
