Travelling to Liverpool by train
Liverpool is easily accessible by train from all major cities in the UK, the journey from London will take just over two hours.
The Merseyrail train network has excellent links across Liverpool and to other parts of the city region.
Travelling to Liverpool by air
Liverpool John Lennon Airport is only seven miles from the city centre.
Manchester Airport is just a 45-minute drive.
There are public transport connections from both airports.
Travelling to Liverpool by car
Liverpool city region is well connected to the UK motorway network. From the M6 take the M62, M58 or M56 to reach the city centre.

City Campus
Located close to the William Brown Street area, near to St George's Hall, the Walker Art Gallery, the Liverpool Museum and Central Library.
Mount Pleasant
Located mainly between the city's two cathedrals. Most of the Mount Pleasant area is covered by designated conservation areas. There are several university buildings that are statutorily listed as being of architectural or historic interest.
Copperas Hill
Linking our two campuses, Copperas Hill is home to our landmark Student Life Building and LJMU Sports Centre. Conveniently located adjacent to Liverpool Lime Street train station and five minutes from Queens Square bus station, it is a short distance from the city centre and all LJMU buildings.
Maritime Knowledge Hub
Built around the iconic Grade 2 listed Hydraulic Tower building, the Maritime Knowledge Hub is based in Birkenhead.

If you're heading to Mount Pleasant Campus, consider parking at Mount Pleasant or Brownlow Hill.
For City Campus, look for car parks at Pall Mall, Moorfields, or Fontenoy Street.

Walking is an easy way to get exercise into your daily routine without you even noticing. Plus, there’s no better way to save on travel costs. All our sites are accessible by foot so why not get your walking shoes on and make a difference. The LJMU Action Climate Plan advocates for more people walking as part of their commute.

Across our campuses we have several cycle storage areas and many of these are monitored by CCTV. We also provide changing rooms and lockers for our students, staff and visitors to use. You can use our locations map to find these.

Buses
A good bus network operates in Merseyside and all our sites are regularly serviced. The Merseytravel journey app will help you find the easiest and quickest bus route for your commute. You'll also find the following websites useful:
Trains
Merseyrail provides a comprehensive rail service across the Liverpool City Region and the surrounding area, reaching out to Southport, Warrington, Runcorn, Blackpool and Chester. Visit Merseytravel for all ticket options.
If you are travelling from Greater Manchester, TransPennine Express has an hourly service between Manchester Victoria and Liverpool which only takes 32 minutes. If you are between the ages of 16-25, you could get a third off rail fares by using a 16-25 railcard.
Further afield, Liverpool can be reached by train from across the UK. Check the National Rail website to plan your journey.
Ferries
If you're based on the Wirral, what better way to start your day than taking the famous ‘Ferry ‘Cross the Mersey’! The frequent weekday service takes about 10 minutes to cross the river. The ferry terminal at Pier Head is a short walk to and from the City and Mount Pleasant campuses. The Seacombe terminal on the Wirral has a free park-and-ride service.

Taxis
Take advantage of some of the least expensive taxi fares in the country.
In Liverpool, we have two types of taxis:
- hackney-style (black cabs) which you can flag down on the street or find at ranks throughout the city
- private hire cabs which must be pre-booked

LJMU works closely with AccessAble, who publish detailed information about accessibility across all LJMU's buildings and sites. AccessAble also provides detailed access information about surrounding facilities such as student accommodation, cafes and restaurants, leisure facilities, cinemas, museums, places of worship and more.
You can use AccessAble to tailor your profile to suit you and include your favourites sites and trips. The Disability Advice Team and Disability Coordinators will be able to signpost you to the website, but you can also use the AccessAble website.
