World's largest robotic telescope
LJMU is building the world’s largest £30m robotic telescope. Thousands of schoolchildren already use our existing robotic telescope at La Palma. It is accessed through the National Schools Observatory to enhance STEM education.

Global leader in Sport and Exercise Science
LJMU is now one of the best universities in the world for Sport and Exercise Science. Ranked sixth in the QS World University Rankings (subject rankings 2024). The university launched the UK’s first sports science degree 50 years ago.

LJMU delivers outstanding maritime education, research and innovation. We hold a seat on the prestigious International Executive Board of the International Association of Maritime Universities. The board represents a global network of leading maritime institutions.
In 2024, we further strengthened our leadership by launching the LJMU Global Centre for Maritime Innovation.
