Collaboration and partnerships
At LJMU, collaboration and partnerships are central to the things we do.
We are dedicated to fostering meaningful connections that create lasting impact. Whether through research, innovation, or outreach, we address challenges and unlock opportunities.
LJMU as an anchor institution
LJMU is a major anchor institution in the Liverpool City Region, employing 2,780 people. We supply more graduate employees into the LCR economy than any other university. That is 28% of the overall graduate intake.
Research, innovation and business growth
Through its research, innovation and place-based interventions, LJMU plays a vital role. We help businesses start up, scale and introduce new innovations. This work creates jobs and improves the region’s productivity.
Community engagement and outreach
LJMU also plays a vital role in communities through its many outreach programs. These initiatives address fundamental challenges in the city region’s economy. They help raise aspirations and support people in accessing education and work.
Advancing research and innovation
LJMU is currently engaged in 14 research collaborations funded by Innovate UK, to the value of almost £9m. These projects range from applying AI to detect heart disease to developing electric ships.
Supporting SMEs through strategic partnerships
LJMU is a key partner in the Horizons project, helping 100 SMEs innovate and drive economic growth.
It builds on the LCR 4.0 projects, which supported local businesses in adopting digital technology for growth.
Over seven years, the projects helped create 3,050 gross jobs and delivered an increase of gross GVA of £197.5m.
