Student Futures is LJMU’s Careers, Employability and Start-Up service and university lead for student employability and graduate employment. The team provides a wide range of services, opportunities and resources directly to students and graduates, designed to transform their employability skills and mindset, career agility and future success.

As a value-adding partner, Student Futures also provides expert consultancy and practical support to Programme Teams as they embed careers, employability and start-up within the curriculum. We share, with academic colleagues, LJMU’s Executive Leadership Team and external partners, responsibility for our graduates’ professional success over time and the strategically important measures that flow from it.

Within the curriculum, we deliver engaging and contemporary sessions and outside of the curriculum, we deliver workshops and webinars that progress students’ employability skills, mindset and career confidence. The team also initiate and maintain rich relationships with external partners, generating placements, internships, clients for student projects and exhibitors for recruitment fairs. We maintain Careers Zone 24/7, an expansive suite of themed digital tools/apps and resources.

The team offer careers and employability support via Careers Zones in the Student Life Building and Byrom Street. This includes personalised careers information, advice and guidance, equipping students to develop and realise ambitious onward plans.

The Start-Up Hub provides a pipeline from exploration of enterprise skills and self-employment to business planning and start-up via practical workshops and webinars, expert advice and coaching, meetups and networking opportunities.

Unitemps at LJMU is LJMU’s recruitment agency, a wholly-owned subsidiary facilitating part-time work for our students in support of their study and increasingly exclusive opportunities for our graduates to transition into high skilled employment.
