Your first week at LJMU
Your first week as an LJMU student will focus on your academic introduction to the university – we call this your induction week. You’ll meet your academic team, teaching staff, and other students studying on your course. This will give you an idea of what and how you will study this year.
You’ll also receive information on all the support services offered by the university, as well as sport and gym memberships with LJMU Sport, and societies and clubs organised by your students’ union, JMSU.
Please note:
Most of our students start their studies in September each year. Students starting their studies at other times in the year will be contacted directly about their course start date and induction.
Campus Connect
If you haven’t already, you can join Campus Connect to find your class and housemates and start making friends before you arrive. Check your emails for joining instructions.
Induction timetable
Students joining LJMU each September will be able to access an induction timetable, usually made available online each August. You are expected to attend all the sessions outlined on your induction timetable, and it will have details about which LJMU buildings you need to go to, plus times, room numbers and the activities you must attend. Find out where your classes will be and how long it will take to get from home to LJMU by using our interactive map.
If you are starting your studies in January 2025, you won’t have a separate induction timetable, but your introductory sessions will be outlined on your general programme timetable, and this is already available online.
Freshers activities
There will also be social and freshers activities taking place during your first few weeks at LJMU that you can book through JMSU, including the main Freshers Fair every September and the Refreshers Fair every January. Their schedule of events will help you to get to know other new students and introduce you to some of the best things to do in the wonderful city of Liverpool.
Get LJMU Ready guide
Ahead of your first week you can also check out our guide for new students starting their studies in September 2024. International students will receive a bespoke international-focused copy during your induction and welcome events.
