Education courses
Preparing you for a career in education.
Education Studies and Early Childhood Studies
With a growing external profile, our Education and Early Childhood Studies programmes provide an excellent student experience enhanced by a flourishing culture of research and consultancy. This subject area has a reputation for curriculum innovation, with a number of successful curriculum enhancement bids, fantastic student internships and exceptional teaching, having received teaching excellence awards in recent years. Students across our undergraduate programmes can make use of our first-class facilities, including our Education Building, opened in 2021, and the Outdoor Learning Zone, a short walk from the Education Building and a hub for our Natural Curriculum outdoor learning projects.
Teacher training
If you are interested in our initial teacher education programmes or professional development courses for teachers, LJMU has a well-established reputation in these areas. We deliver innovative approaches to initial teacher education. We offer a unique Learning Development Support programme for students who may not have formal qualifications, but who have a wealth of experience in the field, to obtain an undergraduate degree. There are two main pathways into teaching: University-led pathways and School-led pathways. Within these there are Postgraduate and Undergraduate training pathways and School-led salaried routes are available too.
International Qualified Teacher Status (iQTS)
Both UK citizens working abroad or non-UK citizens, who meet the requirements and wish to begin teacher training outside of the UK may be interested in our iQTS initial teacher training. Our iQTS programme will launch in 2024 in specific geographic regions, working together with local schools and education partners. Visit our iQTS webpage and follow us on Twitter (X), Instagram, Threads, Facebook and TikTok for updates.
MBA in Educational Leadership
A bold, ambitious, and pioneering MBA programme
The MBA in Educational Leadership guides and prepares senior and emerging leaders across the education sector to connect business practice and educational ambition with and for people and communities. Throughout the programme our philosophical approach adopts and applies an explorative look at how education makes a difference across and alongside communities. We seek to challenge and appreciate the components of a socially just, sustainable education system and explore a range of issues through the perspective of the transformation of others.
