Reading list service

You can request an Electronic Key Text (EKT) by completing a Digital Scanning Request form. For more information, see the Digital Scanning Service on Request service web page.

When the EKT is available Library Services will add it to the relevant reading list.

There are several edit options available. Select the three dots to the right of the section name or item record that you wish to edit, and you will see the options available to you.

A new list or unpopulated reading list will have one default section: Section 1 with a Dummy record.

You can rename by selecting the 3 dots to the right of the section title and create as many sections as you. Once you have added a reference to your section, delete the Dummy record.

To add a journal article to your reading list, select the Search the library option under the Add button.

In the Basic Search panel type in your search terms - this can be author/titles/key or a combination. Use the Filter option in the results screen to “article.” Use the Drag and drop to list button to drag it into a section in your list.

Library Services has a “digital first” policy so where possible, we will purchase an eBook in the first instance and print copies dependent on the tag.

Essential texts: we will purchase more than one print copy in accordance with student numbers.

Recommended texts: we will purchase at least one print copy.

To add a book not already held by LJMU Library and to generate an order, use the Manual entry option under the Add button or the Cite It! option. You will need to complete the mandatory fields indicted by a red asterix and add an Essential or Recommended tag.

Books will be ordered, if available, in accordance with the Library Collection Management Policy.

Out-of-print titles are difficult to source, and we cannot buy multiple copies, so if there are not already copies on the shelf in the library, please consider removing the out-of-print title from your reading list.

To comply with Copyright Law, you should link to webpages, reports, and other online materials.

To add a webpage to your reading list, select the Manual entry option under the Add button. There are 2 mandatory fields indicated by a red asterix (or star): Title and Type.

Work your way through the form adding the URL or web address into the URL field, add any notes on the final screen and select Add to save details. Alternatively, you can use the Cite It! option.
