School of Computer Science and Mathematics

Faculty of Engineering and Technology

Glyn is long standing comrade of LJMU having graduated from the school in which he now works with a degree in Software Engineering many, many years ago :)
During & since that time, his extraordinary adeptness with the most challenging of software engineering disciplines has resulted in a remarkable breadth & depth of scholarly & practical knowledge. In his own words:
“I do not sleep until the problems of the day are put to bed first !”
Presently, Glyn’s research interests concern two main areas, virtualisation management and data analytics. Both areas inform teaching wherever possible, as does his diverse software development activity. The former is a study into declarative language frameworks to aid human and/or autonomic management of virtual servers. The latter is an emergent growth area and encompasses many sub-disciplines; time will tell which will become mainstream practices.
Glyn’s teaching concerns include a broad spectrum of computing topics but of late focus upon database systems from OLTP (OnLine Transaction Processing) through OLAP (OnLine Analytical Processing) to Data Analytics. He is also dedicated scholar of programming language design, investigating & teaching the latest developments in first class APIs and their associated languages (e.g. .NET & C#, JDK & Java). With the latter comes a wide range of implementable technologies, the most recent of which include ASP.NET/MVC/Web API, EntityF, Android, Java EE/JavaFX etc.
Glyn is the link tutor for the school’s successful franchise of our MultiMedia Computing undergraduate programme with Kolej-YPC in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This role is the latest in a series of international engagement responsibilities over the past 8 years that has seen opportunities for SE Asian students to successfully complete a UK degree either in their home country or at the university itself.
