Faculty of Engineering and Technology

Anupa is a Senior Lecturer in Quantity Surveying and Commercial Management at School of Civil Engineering and Built Environment, Liverpool John Moores University. She is a Chartered Quantity Surveyor of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS), Institute of Quantity Surveyors Sri Lanka (AIQSSL), Australian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (MAIQS) and International Cost Engineers Council (ICECA). Anupa obtained her BSc (Hons) degree in Quantity Surveying and an MPhil in Construction Management from University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka. In 2008 she joined EPSRC funded 'Adaptable Futures' research project at Loughborough University UK and completed her PhD titled 'Economic Considerations for Adaptability in Buildings' in 2012. Having completed her PG Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education at Liverpool John Moores University, she became as a Fellow member (FHEA) of the Advanced Higher Education (Formally Higher Education Academy), UK in 2013.

Anupa has a proven track record of securing research funding both nationally and internationally. In 2023, she led a year-long project titled "Industry Academia co-operation for sustainable built environment ecosystem," valued at £39,000, funded by the British Council's Going Global Partnership Programme. This project fostered collaboration between industry and academia to promote sustainability in the built environment. Currently, she leads the "Capacity Building in Built Environment Sustainability Research (CAPABLE)", a two-year project (2024-26) valued at £100,000 funded through the UK-India Education and Research Initiative.

Anupa’s current research interests focus on Information Systems, Digital Transformation in Construction, Life Cycle Costing, Building Information Modelling for Financial Management, Smart Cities and Adaptable Buildings. She has published over 50 academic publications in peer reviewed journals and conferences. She was a guest editor for Journal of Built Environment and Project Asset Management - special issue on "Sustainability: business drivers and managerial implications" and Buildings Journal - special issue on "Impact of Engineering Practices on a Sustainable Built Environment". Anupa is a reviewer for many of the academic journals and conferences. She has delivered keynotes, chaired sessions and worked in several scientific committees in international and local conferences. Since 2018 she has been working as an Expert for the European Commissions' Erasmus+ research bid evaluation panels. She was a peer reviewer for EPSRC, ESRC and EPFLeaders4impact research grants.

Anupa has successfully completed a PhD supervision as a Director of Studies at LJMU (BIM for Facilities Information Management) and also supervised over 200 Undergraduate and Masters dissertations. Currently, she delivers lectures in Project Economics and Management, Engineering Measurement and BIM enabled Financial Management modules in undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
