Rob Gandy is a Visiting Professor in the Liverpool Business School, Faculty of Business and Law, Liverpool John Moores University. He is a professional statistician and health service manager; his career involved 27 years in the NHS (including 13 years in a variety of Director-level posts) and 16 years as a successful independent management consultant. During his career he was the lead for a number of major projects. He has over 110 journal and conference publications as the sole, lead or joint author, and a further 24 as a co-author. The topics covered include statistics & information, epidemiology, management, procurement, pharmacy, cancer and end-of-life services. He created a diagrammatical methodology which is widely applied in Italy, and given the name of the Nomogramma di Gandy. This has led to him collaborating in related research with senior academics in Italy and San Marino, where he has given a number of lectures.

As a lifelong fortean, in his spare time he has eclectic interests relating to all things weird. These include phantom hitchhikers, ghosts, strange sports, folk customs, time slips and synchronicities. In this regard he is a regular contributor to the magazine Fortean Times and The Ghost Club Journal. He has given presentations about road ghosts to raise money for several charities and has been interviewed for podcasts, radio and television.
