Spring graduation 2025

More than 2,400 students officially graduated from LJMU this week across nine spectacular ceremonies at Liverpool Cathedral.

The university’s latest graduates were able to celebrate in style alongside their personal supporters and cheerleaders, as well as staff from all academic faculties and professional supporting services who have been with the students during every step of their studies.

Following their formal ceremonies students ‘toasted to their success’ alongside friends, family and fellow graduates as they gathered to receive special school prizes and awards at additional celebratory events hosted by the university.

Speaking during the ceremonies, LJMU Vice-Chancellor Professor Mark Power said: “We are a home-grown university. An anchor institution in this great port city. We were born to play a part in the life of Liverpool, to raise the aspirations of individuals and communities and to provide a springboard for generations of students to go out into the world with the ambition and commitment to make a difference.

As graduates, you are now part of that continuing story. You are following in the footsteps of the generations that have gone before you – and most importantly, as a graduate, you are part of a connected community of historical purpose.

Overseeing her fourth year of graduation ceremonies since her installation as the university’s first alumni Chancellor, Nisha Katona MBE said: “Savour every moment of this day, you deserve it! Like every day, this is a special day for you. A day of new beginnings, of hope, and a tremendous future for you all.”

Spring graduation stories

Wednesday

On Wednesday, graduates from Liverpool Business School, Liverpool Screen School and the schools of Art and Design, Law, Education, and Nursing and Advanced Practice were the first to wear their graduation gowns as they marked the end of their university studies. It was a double celebration for one family which saw siblings, Cara and Seb Fitzpatrick, following in their grandmother's footsteps completing their law studies here in Liverpool at LJMU.

Internationally renowned painter Sir Christopher Le Brun was also conferred with an honorary fellowship on Wednesday, recognising his achievements as one of the finest artists of his generation. The honour comes as the university’s art school marks its 200th birthday in 2025.

Thursday

Thursday saw celebrations for those who studied with the schools of Humanities and Social Sciences, Justice Studies, Nursing and Advanced Practice, Psychology, and Public and Allied Health. Andy Crossley, graduating from the MA in Counselling course, said that enrolling at LJMU was one of the ‘best decisions’ he ever made. Andy shares his story of how his studies have given him a new career as a psychotherapist.

Friday

And finally, Friday brought spring graduation to a close with the ceremonies for the schools of Biological and Environmental Sciences, Pharmacy and Biomolecular Sciences, Sport and Exercise Sciences, Civil Engineering and Built Environment, Computer Science and Mathematics, Engineering and the Astrophysics Research Institute.

Tommy Fleetwood, one of the world’s leading golfers, was awarded a prestigious honorary fellowship during Friday’s ceremonies, acknowledging his sporting achievements and support of LJMU’s world-leading School of Sport and Exercise Sciences which also celebrates its 50th anniversary this year.

Graduation photos and staying connected to LJMU as an alum

Photos and videos from the ceremonies will be shared on LJMU Connect, the university’s alumni network which graduates can sign-up for to stay in touch with the university about future events, reunions, graduate support, networking and mentoring programmes.
