Students secure silver prize in global design-build competition



Students from the School of Civil Engineering and Built Environment have secured 2nd place in a prestigious student competition in America for those studying on construction programmes.

The LJMU team joined forces with students from Auburn University, Alabama, to gain 2nd place in the Design-Build International category at the Associated Schools of Construction (ASC) Region 5 Competition in Dallas, Texas.

The team included students from the construction management, quantity surveying, and architectural technology programmes at LJMU. They competed against 20 other university teams from around the world to take silver position in their category.

Dr Ali Rostami, Programme Leader in the School of Civil Engineering and Built Environment said: “This success is a testament to the dedication, teamwork, and talent of our students who embraced this global opportunity for learning, networking, and professional growth. Competing at such a high level against leading institutions has provided them with invaluable industry experience and reinforced LJMU’s strong presence on the international stage.

LJMU student Josh said: “Being selected by LJMU to compete in the 2025 ASC Region 5 competition in Dallas was an unforgettable experience. The competition was challenging yet incredibly rewarding, pushing me out of my comfort zone as I worked alongside Auburn University students on a real-world project.


The opportunity to connect with industry leaders was amazing, and it was a refreshing change from day-to-day university life. Travelling and competing with my LJMU teammates made it even more special.
