Gold award for sustainability at LJMU

LJMU has earned gold status for its sustainability and environmental initiatives after a review by external inspectors.
The university has been awarded the honour by EcoCampus, an environmental management scheme for higher and further education.
It comes just over a year after LJMU secured silver status and represents the university’s highest EcoCampus rating to date.
Inspectors visited LJMU to review facilities, policies and procedures, and interview members of staff.
Recognition for best practice
Achieving gold status is one of the objectives in the university’s Climate Action Plan and is the latest in a series of awards for LJMU’s environmental initiatives: last month, the university secured its highest ranking in the People and Planet league table, while in November a key LJMU redevelopment project was recognised for environmental best practice.
The award is recognition of our commitment to embedding sustainability and environmental best practice in everything we do at LJMU
Professor Phil Vickerman
Professor Phil Vickerman, LJMU Pro-Vice Chancellor (Student Experience) and Climate Action Plan lead, said: “We’re extremely proud and delighted to have been awarded gold EcoCampus status.
“The award is recognition of our commitment to embedding sustainability and environmental best practice in everything we do at LJMU.
“This is a real team effort and I would particularly like to thank colleagues in our Environmental Sustainability and Energy team, Safety Health and Environment team and Estate Development and Campus Services for leading on this key initiative.
“We are making great progress against the objectives set in our Climate Action Plan and we will continue to drive forward our ambitions, including working towards platinum EcoCampus status.”
