I completed my PhD in developmental amnesia at University of Essex, before gaining a post-doctoral position in the NPU at Manchester. I was working on an MRC-funded investigation of the neural correlates of impulsiveness, empathy & reward sensitivity in antisocial personality disorder and also generalised anxiety disorder. This required developing tasks and analyses for both functional and direct/indirect pharmacoMRI challenges. In 2007 I moved to Sheffield Hallam as a senior then principal lecturer in psychology, taking on a variety of course / PGT programme leader roles, as well as academic work planning & student recruitment. In 2024 I moved to LJMU as a Principal lecturer.

My research interests currently are focused on the investigation of malingering (deliberate attempts to feign cognitive impairment) using eye tracking/gaze/pupil size metrics on recognition tasks. Other longstanding interests revolve around the dark triad/tetrad personality traits, callous/unemotional traits & empathy/theory of mind measures.
