I received a First Class BSc (Hons) in Speech and Language Sciences from the University of Newcastle in 2006. I undertook my PhD in Psychology at the Neuroscience and Aphasia Research Unit, University of Manchester from 2006-2009, submitting a thesis entitled 'Recovery of language and reading in post-stroke aphasia: A longitudinal study.'

Following my PhD, I returned to the University of Newcastle as a Teaching Fellow, before taking up the role in 2010 of Senior Lecturer and then Programme Lead for the BSc Speech and Language Therapy at Manchester Metropolitan University. In 2022, I became Head of Allied Health (Associate Head of School) at York St John University. I joined LJMU as a Principal Lecturer in 2023, leading the Paramedic team.
