I completed my nurse education at Liverpool John Moores University in 2003 and began my career as a registered adult nurse at the Royal Liverpool Hospital. Starting as a D Grade staff nurse on the Acute Medical Assessment Unit (today’s Band 5), in time, I advanced to the role of charge nurse before specialising in alcohol services.
For around ten years, I served as an alcohol specialist nurse across LUFHT and Merseycare sites, during which time I qualified as a non-medical prescriber. I also had a brief stint as a discharge coordinator with the Royal’s case management team, but my passion for working with acute patients led me back to alcohol services as the Band 7 team manager.
Driven by a desire to expand my clinical practice, I applied for a trainee Advanced Nurse Practitioner role in acute medicine and completed my MSc in Advanced Practice at LJMU. I then returned to my original unit, AMU, as an ANP. Inspired by my lecturers, I first considered moving into education during my MSc studies. When the time felt right to branch out in a new direction, I applied for the role of senior lecturer at LJMU.
In my current role, it is a pleasure to pass on and develop knowledge and skills while sharing my experiences with our wonderful future nurses. Throughout my career, I have always prioritised empathy, compassion, and understanding. These qualities have been fundamental in connecting with patients, supporting their needs, and fostering a positive and healing environment. By embodying these values, I strive to inspire the next generation of nurses to approach their practice with the same dedication and care.
