Thomas McCooey joined LJMU in 2022 and teaches in the journalism department, focussing on sports journalism.
He is NCTJ and NCE trained, and also has a BJTC-accredited MA in broadcast journalism from the University of Central Lancashire.
Before joining LJMU, he worked as a journalist with roles in news and sport at The Wigan Post and Wigan Observer, and has freelanced for national titles and trade magazines.
He has also worked as a sub editor for Reach PLC on the sports pages of the Sunday Star and Sunday Express, and still writes for publications such as Classic Car Weekly and Forty-20 Magazine.
Thomas has some previous broadcast experience, including as a production assistant at BBC Radio Lancashire, and has written two books on Wigan Warriors rugby league club.
