Staff needed to support Clearing 2026

We are looking for staff to help recruit students to LJMU during Clearing 2026. 

The university is seeking staff to help with operating 100+ phone lines at our Clearing Hub on Thursday 13 August 2026. No previous experience is required, and full training will be given.  

When and where are volunteers needed?

This year the Clearing Hub will be located on the third floor in the James Parsons Building, City Campus. 

The busiest times of Clearing are 7.30am to 3.30pm. 

We kindly ask that staff who are able to support on the clearing vacancy lines start at 7am and finish no earlier than 1pm. Breakfast, lunch, and refreshments will also be provided. 

What is Clearing? 

During Clearing, thousands of undecided students shop around for their university choices. Clearing is an exciting opportunity for many to dig deeper and find their ideal course and institution. 

Who can volunteer for Clearing 2026? 

Any member of staff, academic or professional services can take part in Clearing and any support you are able to provide is greatly appreciated, however roles between academic staff and professional services staff differ.  

Professional Services staff 

We’re asking Professional Services staff to volunteer as Vacancy Line Operators. 

Vacancy Line Operators will be 'first responders' and will be overseen by supervisors, who will be responsible for making each decision.  

Alongside this, academic staff will be on hand to talk in greater depth about individual courses. An additional Confirmation line will be set up to deal with enquiries from existing applicants.

Full operator training will be given at an online session, 10am to 11am on Tuesday 11 August 2026. Microsoft  Teams invites for the training will be sent out nearer the time.
