In memoriam: Stuart Wright
The university is deeply saddened to announce the sudden death of our much-loved colleague, Stuart Wright.
Stuart joined LJMU on 1 October 1990 as a computing officer in what was then Computing and Information Services.
Over more than three decades, he held a number of senior roles within ITS, including Principal Computing Officer in 1997, Infrastructure Systems Manager in 2007, Systems Integration Manager in 2010, Enterprise Systems Manager in 2013 and Head of IT Infrastructure in 2023.
Throughout his career at LJMU, Stuart was unfailingly kind and generous with his time in supporting colleagues across ITS and the wider university.
A much-respected LJMU figure, Stuart was known to many staff for his quick wit, sound judgement and common sense. In his many roles, he was a technical pragmatist who looked for innovation and practical solutions to make the LJMU experience better for students and staff.
To describe Stuart simply as ‘a character’ would understate the seriousness and commitment he brought to his work. But he was also funny, gifted and enormously well liked by all those lucky enough to work with him.
He will be greatly missed across the LJMU community.
Our thoughts are with his family, friends and colleagues in ITS, where he was held in such deep affection.
