Scientist Carl helps Jack to world title
Sport Science at LJMU was celebrating over the weekend as boxer Jack Catterall earned a world title on the undercard of the Usyk – Verhoeven fight.
Strength and Conditioning expert Dr Carl Langan-Evans, a reader in the School of Sport and Exercise Sciences, has worked with the Chorley welterweight for some time.
And he was ringside at the “Glory in Giza” event held at the Pyramids, near Cairo on Saturday night.
Dr Langan-Evans, who has now helped with fitness with four world champions, said: "I help Jack with sport nutrition support throughout his training camps, and he is also acting as a participant in some of my longitudinal research on weight making in combat sport athletes.
"Jack was fantastic, taking all our sport science support guidance on board to make weight safely and professionally, rehydrate and refuel efficiently ultimately culminating in him winning his bout."
Jack, 32, will now go on to a unification of belts contest later in 2026, and following the fight shared a post featuring images of his team, with Carl and Eddie Hearn.

Carl has supported a host of top sportsmen and women over the past years, including Mollie ‘Meatball’ McCann and Paddy Pimblett.
