Mental Health Awareness Week: support for our students and where to reach out
Mental Health Awareness Week, led by the Mental Health Foundation, is taking place from the 11 to 17 May, and this year’s theme is Take Action.
At LJMU, your wellbeing matters. If you’re struggling with your mental health or wellbeing support is available for all our students.
This week, we’re highlighting the changes we’ve made, and what we’re working on next to support you, through sharing our LJMU Mental Health and Wellbeing progress report.
LJMU Mental Health and Wellbeing Progress Report
This report brings together work from across the University and the Students’ Union to improve mental health and wellbeing for all students and staff.
It’s part of our commitment to the Student Minds University Mental Health Charter, which sets out what good support should look like across your learning experience, support services and university life.
LJMU has been Programme Members of the University Mental Health Charter since 2021, demonstrating our unwavering commitment to supporting the mental health and wellbeing of our students and staff.
What’s improved so far
Here are some of the changes we’ve made:
- Your voice is shaping change. JMSU have introduced a new Student Voice Framework and used feedback from things like the Freshers Survey and Lunch & Listen sessions to improve the student experience.
- Student-led wellbeing opportunities including buddy schemes, training, and campaigns to help you feel more connected and supported.
- Better opportunities to stay active and feel part of a community with initiatives like the Moves+ app, Tranquil Training gym sessions, and more accessible activities across campus.
- A safer and more accessible campus including tools like the SafeZone app and ongoing improvements to campus spaces to make them easier to navigate.
What’s next
We know there’s always more to do. The report also sets out what we’re focusing on next to make LJMU an even more supportive place to study.
Take action this Mental Health Awareness Week
This week is all about taking action—whatever that looks like for you. You could:
- check out the support available to you
- reach out to someone if you’re struggling
- read the report and share your feedback
