Nominate an individual for an Honorary Fellowship

We're asking staff to nominate individuals they would like to become an LJMU Honorary Fellow for their enduring commitment to working with the university.

What is an Honorary Fellowship?

The university currently has more than 300 Fellows dating back to the inauguration of the university. The first fellowship was conferred upon our namesake, Sir John Moores and since then individuals have been recognised for outstanding achievements in their field.

The Fellowships are the highest honour the university bestows and each of our Chancellors, including Lady Cherie Blair, Sir Brian May, Lord Brian Leveson and Nisha Katona were conferred as Fellows before moving to their Chancellorship. Our most recent recipients include golfer Tommy Fleetwood, barrister Sam Hillas and Hugh Baird principal Rachel Hennigan.

There is an expectation that Fellows will have an enduring commitment to working with the university and their interaction and engagement will be managed by the Vice-Chancellor’s Office and Corporate Communications and Stakeholder Relations. Fellowships are traditionally conferred during graduation ceremonies but can be conferred throughout the academic year in an appropriate setting and associated event.

How to make a nomination

Nominations can be submitted for consideration from the university community (staff, students, alumni, the Fellowship) and each submission will be considered by the Vice-Chancellor, senior colleagues and the students union to assess individual merit and potential future university collaboration.

Nominations can be submitted (in confidence) at any time during the academic year and the panel will meet in November and April each academic year to consider submissions. A nomination must consist of a one-page briefing note outlining the key achievements of the individual and the potential connection and benefit they would have from association with the university. Anyone nominating an individual for recognition may be asked for further information.

The nominee must not be approached in advance; there is no guarantee that a nominee will be approved.

Nominations can be submitted in confidence to communications@ljmu.ac.uk
