National Apprenticeship Week 2025
LJMU is marking National Apprenticeship Week 2025 (10-14 February).
The university is celebrating the achievements of its apprentices and delivering a host of activity with local schools to encourage young people to consider an apprenticeship.
On Wednesday, LJMU hosts the Health and Social Work Apprenticeship Awards 2025 to recognise the work of apprentices working in a range of healthcare settings.
Outstanding skills, behaviours and attitudes at LJMU
LJMU has been delivering degree apprenticeships for almost a decade across a range of sectors, including policing, healthcare, civil engineering, chartered surveying and business management. The university is expanding its provision following the award of significant new funding from the Office for Students.
The apprenticeship programmes earned glowing praise from Ofsted following the first inspection in 2023. In a highly positive report, Ofsted found the provision to be good overall and outstanding for the behaviours and attitudes demonstrated by our apprentices.
How a degree apprenticeship works
A degree apprenticeship is a route into work-based learning that enables apprentices to achieve a full degree while developing practical skills in the workplace.
Our apprentices spend approximately 80% of their time at work and 20% studying part-time at LJMU, ensuring they develop an in-depth understanding of their chosen sector while bringing a fresh perspective and higher-level knowledge and skills to their employer.
Everyone learns in different ways and the degree apprenticeship programme allows our students the flexibility to have the academic support and study at university and also progress and develop in the workplace. It’s a really positive career pathway and I can’t speak highly enough of how supportive the tutors and other staff at LJMU are in the delivery of the degree apprenticeship programme.
