The People Plan for staff

The People Plan 2030 outlines six strategic themes to create engaged staff, central to LJMU’s success.

The six key themes of the plan are:

  • Attraction and Retention
  • Performance and Development
  • Impactful Leadership and Communication
  • An Adaptive Culture
  • Health, Wellbeing and Safety
  • Diversity and Inclusion

Created by Human Resources in collaboration with stakeholders across the  university, The People Plan directly supports LJMU’s vision and forms a key part of the Strategic Plan 2030.

Tina Purkis, Executive Director Human Resources, said:

“The aim of The People Plan is to support the university’s aspirations of recruiting, retaining, developing and managing high performing, motivated, engaged and healthy teams who are proud to work for us.

“By putting staff engagement front and centre of our plan, this will be an experience emulated by our current and future students.”

The plan, which was developed in late 2022 and launched in 2023, was the focus of the first Directorate meeting of 2024, which took place earlier this week. The university’s wider senior leadership team heard at the meeting how we’ve progressed on the People Plan to date, and were involved in discussions on the plans for 2024 and beyond.

Since the launch of LJMU’s strategic plan in 2023, there have been several developments as part of The People Plan, including significant progress against the Diversity & Inclusion plan, the implementation of Actus, a new Leadership Enhancement and Development Programme, plus the relaunch of the university’s staff engagement survey.

The People Plan will continue to be developed with the involvement of staff following the mantra ‘nothing without us, about us’ in mind, to ensure that we make LJMU the best possible place to work for all staff members.
