Prestigious civil engineering title for Dr Ana Bras

Dr Ana Bras, from LJMU’s Faculty of Engineering and Technology, has been named as a policy fellow within the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), the UK’s leading source of expertise in civil engineering.

Policy fellows are civil engineering professionals at the top of their game. Having already demonstrated their capabilities via a rigorous fellowship process, the policy fellows will now directly inform decision making on global infrastructure challenges.

Dr Bras, Associate Professor and Reader with the School of Civil Engineering and Built Environment, said: “My work is all about finding ways to decarbonise the infrastructure around us, particularly looking at self-healing techniques and re-using materials rather than creating additional carbon-heavy ones. As an ICE policy fellow I can help create a more sustainable world which is a great honour.”

Civil engineers design and build the infrastructure that we rely on daily and expert policy advice is at the very heart of the effort to deliver a more sustainable and resilient future.”

Members of the ICE are drawn from public, private and academic sectors, and design, build and maintain vital transport, water, flooding, energy, and waste infrastructure.
