LJMU joins record-breaking Liverpool Pride March 2024

More than 100 students, staff and alumni took to the streets for the Liverpool City Region Pride March

The LJMU community joined a record breaking 25,000+ people who turned out on Saturday 27 July to march from St George’s Plateau to the waterfront as part of Liverpool Pride.

Members of the LJMU community met at the Student Life Building to collect LJMU branded pride t-shirts before heading out on the march alongside friends, family and pets!

Liverpool Pride is an opportunity to ensure LGBT+ voices are heard and is a protest as much as a celebration and this year's LCR Pride Foundation theme was ‘Be Heard.’

LJMU’s LGBTQI+ Staff Network Co- Chairs, Emma Ashman, Holly Keenan-Fallace and Oliver Sproston said:

“Participating in the Pride March is always an amazing experience, and Liverpool shines when it comes to hosting the march! It was truly uplifting to walk alongside the LJMU LGBTQIA+ Network and the wider LJMU Community, which included allies, family, and friends. This year marks the 14th time LJMU has participated, and despite the rain, we proudly sported our rainbow LJMU t-shirts as we paraded through the streets.

"Diversity and Inclusion are central to our values here at LJMU, and we are dedicated to ensuring that every voice in our LGBT+ community is heard. The strong presence of students, staff, and alumni at Pride once again this year was truly heartening, showcasing the continuous growth of the community at LJMU and JMSU, not only among LGBT+ individuals but also among allies whose support is invaluable.”
