Niamh celebrates as Degree Apprentice of Year

A student living “the best of both worlds” has won a national award from industry.

Niamh Aldridge was crowned Degree Apprentice of the Year by media company New Civil Engineer beating off competition from dozens of young engineers.

The degree apprenticeship combines a job with higher-level learning at university.

Niamh, who is employed by AtkinsRéalis and taught at LJMU’s School of Civil Engineering and Built Environment (CEBE) said: “It really means a lot to be recognised by this award.”

This awards celebrating the talent of those early in their careers in the civil engineering sector. The ceremony will take place at the Institution of Civil Engineers’ London headquarters.

A total of 119 individuals from 49 different companies submitted entries for the categories of Apprentice of the Year, Degree Apprentice of the Year and Graduate of the Year.

LJMU runs a range of Degree Apprenticeships in Civil Engineering, Building Services Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying and Construction Site Management.

We currently have 132 enrolled from a range of major employers, including 13 with AtkinsRéalis.
