Offers and pre-employment checks
Following interviews, the successful candidate should be contacted verbally to confirm the outcome of the interview and confirm that a formal offer will be issued by the HR department. During this discussion, the Chair (or hiring manager if different), should:
- Confirm the successful outcome and what the commencing salary will be (the bottom of the grade unless the candidate is currently earning more – evidence will be needed if this is the case).
- Confirm the next steps in relation to pre-employment checks:
- where the candidate is a current employee of the University, the offer is subject to one satisfactory reference from their line manager (unless the manager was a member of the interview panel, in which case no reference is required)
- for new candidates joining LJMU, the offer of employment is subject to:
- two satisfactory references (one must be the current or most recent line manager)
- completion of medical questionnaire
- evidence of right to work in the UK
- copies of relevant qualification certificates
- Disclosure and Barring Service check (only for eligible posts)
- evidence of relevant professional registrations (where required)
Please note
A start date must not be agreed with the candidate until all pre-employment checks have been finalised by HR. A member of the HR team will confirm when a start date can be finalised.
To initiate the written offer being issued to the candidate, the outcome should be submitted to HR via the Hiring Manager Portal. Step-by-step instructions on how to do this can be found on the Hireserve Hiring Manager Portal guidance webpage.
