Service Overview

Occupational Health (OH) aims to complement the University's academic reputation by providing a service that promotes and preserves both the physical and mental wellbeing of all staff.

OH provides a service to protect health at work, to assess and advise on fitness for work and to help manage health issues effectively. In addition OH supports the University in complying with health and safety law, with employment law and forms part of the University's risk management process.

The Occupational Health Unit also provides a screening and referral service for healthcare students, pharmacy students, social care students, microbiology students and student teachers in line with fitness to practice standards.

NHS primary care services are completely separate from the University OH service. Primary care services investigate and treat patients’ medical conditions and act as therapeutic advocates for their patients. OH practitioners provide independent and objective advice to managers in relation to fitness for work, study or training. It is not possible for a service or a practitioner to be both a therapeutic advocate and to provide independent advice to management. This would represent a conflict of interest.

The Occupational Health Unit does not provide emergency medical care, primary care services or minor injury service. It is advised that students register with a GP based in Liverpool a list can be found below:
