Brilliant Club Tutoring
LJMU has a Researcher Development Partnership with The Brilliant Club, an award-winning university access charity. They recruit and train doctoral and post-doctoral researchers to deliver programmes of university-style teaching to pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds in state schools across the UK.
Why become a Brilliant Club PhD tutor
- Communicate your research to a non-specialist audience
- Gain valuable teaching, curriculum design and public engagement experience
- Get expert pedagogical training and real experience to develop your teaching and other transferable skills
- Earn from £605 per placement, plus an additional £161 for designing a new course, and travel expenses
- Join a nationwide community of like-minded researchers making a huge impact on university access
All tutors are supported by a training programme, which includes sessions on tutorial pedagogy, assessment, safeguarding and, for The Scholars Programme, course design. The Scholars Programme allows tutors to design and deliver a course for pupils aged 14 and over based on their own research; there is also the option to deliver pre-designed material to younger pupils, aged 8-10. Each Scholars Programme placement entails 14 hours of in-person delivery, split across 2 groups of 7 pupils, as well as marking homework and the final assignment.
