Ian Beattie is Programme Leader for the BSc (Hons) Science and Football programme in the School of Sport and Exercise Sciences at Liverpool John Moores University.

He teaches on a number of programmes with his main subject focus being in sport/physical activity and health & wellbeing.

He is a member of the Physical Activity Exchange and the Football Exchange within the Research Institute of Sport and Exercise Sciences (RISES). Ian is also a member of the Green Spaces and the Children, Young People and Families interest groups within the Institute for Health Research.

He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, an alumnus of the BA (Hons) Sport Development with PE course, and has an MSc in Sociology of Sport and Exercise from the University of Chester.
In 2020 Ian was appointed to the Prevention Board - Physical Activity Subgroup, Cheshire & Merseyside Health & Care Partnership. He is a member of Wirral's Sport and Physical Activity Steering Group.

His research/scholarly activity interests include sport and health policy, football for health, sport development processes and their use in the context of health, workplace well-being, figurational sociology in sport and health, work-related learning, e-learning, technology and social media.

Ian is an LJMU Connector and an LJMU Health & Wellbeing Champion - staff are welcome to get in touch with Ian for confidential peer advice and mental wellbeing support.

Ian has been nominated by students in the LJMU Amazing Teaching Awards in the category of "Amazing Personal Tutor" and was a part of the winning team (twice) in the "Amazing Programme Team" category.

He has had various external advisor and examiner roles and has completed the Advance HE training for External Examiners. Ian is currently External Examiner at University of Highlands & Islands and at University of Plymouth.

He is a retired-Chair of the North West Health and Physical Activity Forum and a former member of the Wirral Physical Activity Commissioning Board.
