Prof Satyajit Sarker has been the Director of the School of Pharmacy and Biomolecular Sciences at Liverpool John Moores University since 2013. In addition to his role as a Professor of Pharmacy, he serves as the Founding Head of the Centre for Natural Products Discovery (CNPD) at LJMU. He is the recipient of the prestigious Oustanding International Ethnopharmacologist 2023, awarded by the International Society for Ethnopharmacology (ISE) and Society for Ethnopharmacology (SFE).

His research is at the forefront of exploring the anticancer, anti-inflammatory, antimalarial, antimicrobial, chemopreventive, and wound-healing properties of phytochemicals, coupled with computational phytochemistry. Prof Sarker's prolific output boasts over 770 publications, positioning him as one of the most cited authors in natural products research, with an impressive Google citation: 24,700, h-index: 74, and i10-index: 389.

Recognizing his influential contributions, Prof Sarker has been elected to the national Pharmacy Schools Council Executive for a three-year term spanning 2022-2025. He holds the distinguished position of Honorary Professor at the School of Pharmacy, University of East Anglia until 2024. He served as a Visiting Professor at the School of Cosmetic Science, Mae Fah Luang University in 2023 and 2024.

Prof Sarker's international engagements include serving as a Visiting Professor at the School of Medicine, Taylor’s University, Malaysia (2019-21), receiving the honour of Guest Professor at the Wuhan Botanical Garden by the Chinese Academy of Sciences (2019-2020), and holding Visiting Professorships at esteemed institutions such as the University of Technology Malaysia, Stamford University, University of Dammam, Tripoli University, North-South University. He is also an international advisor to the State University of Bangladesh. Adding to his distinguished roles, he served as the former President of the Phytochemical Society of Europe from 2018 to 2020. He is the Founding Chair of the Society for Natural Products Discovery, which is a registered charity with UK Charity Commission, launched on 05 August 2024.

Prof Sarker's academic journey began with distinction, earning BPharm and MPharm degrees in Pharmacy from Dhaka University. His academic prowess is evident as he secured first-class distinctions and claimed the top position in merit for both programs. Continuing his educational journey, Prof Sarker completed his PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences (Phytochemistry) from Strathclyde University, Glasgow, UK.

Before assuming his current role, Prof Sarker held diverse positions at Wolverhampton University, Ulster University, The Robert Gordon University, Exeter University, and Dhaka University. Recognizing his academic excellence and contributions, he became a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy in 2007.

Beyond the academic realm, Prof Sarker is a sought-after speaker, delivering numerous plenary and keynote talks at international conferences. His influence extends to invited talks at various universities and research organizations globally, including prestigious institutions such as the University of Manchester, De Montfort University, The Robert Gordon University, University of Keele, University of Nottingham, University of Worcester, Gregory T Popa University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Hong Kong University, Macau University, Jinan University, Palaćky University, University of Vienna, Tripoli University, Yunnan Agricultural University, University of Botswana, University of Dammam, University of Pharmaceutical and Veterinary Sciences Brno, University of Putra Malaysia (UPM), University Technologi Malaysia (UTM), Wuhan Botanical Garden – Chinese Academy of Sciences, Dhaka University, University of Khulna, East-West University, Bangladesh Centre for Science and Industrial Research (BCSIR), Prime Asia University, Stamford University, The State University of Bangladesh, among many others. His scientific profile has been consistently featured in every edition of the Marquis Who’s Who in the World since 2010.

Prof Sarker's literary contributions include co-authoring the popular textbook, 'Chemistry for Pharmacy Students' (Wiley & Sons) in 2007, subsequently translated into Indonesian, Japanese, Greek, and Portuguese languages. The second edition of this book was published in 2019. He is also the co-author of the book, 'Steroid Dimers' (Wiley & Sons), published in 2012, and has co-edited both the 2nd and 3rd editions of 'Natural Products Isolation' (Humana Press-Springer-Verlag), published in 2005 and 2012, respectively. He also co-edited 'Computational Phytochemistry' (Elsevier; Sarker SD and Nahar L) in 2018, and the second edition of 'Computational Phytochemistry' (Elsevier; Sarker SD and Nahar L) is published in 2024. Prof Sarker co-edited more books such as 'Medicinal Natural Products – A Disease-focused Approach' (Elsevier; Sarker SD and Nahar L) in 2020, 'Recent Advances in Nanotechnology-based Drug Delivery Systems' (Elsevier; Talukdar AD, Sarker SD and Patra JK) in 2022, and 'Biomolecules from Natural Sources: Advances and Applications' (Wiley; Gupta V, Sarker SD, Sharma M, Pirovani ME, Usmani, and Jayabaskaran C) in 2022. The second edition of Computational Phytochemistry (Elsevier) was published in 2024.

Prof Sarker's commitment to advancing scientific knowledge extends to his roles on the Editorial Board of more than 50 international journals, including Biochemical Systematics and Ecology, Current Medicinal Chemistry, Current Trends in Medicinal Chemistry, Phytochemistry Letters, DARU, Diversity, Journal of Pharmacy and Pharmacology, Molecules, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Phytomedicine Plus, Pharmacognosy Magazine, and Pharmacognosy Research. Additionally, he has served as a reviewer for approximately 120 different journals.

Beyond his academic pursuits, Prof Sarker is pivotal in fostering scholarly discussions through ownership and moderation of well-established online discussion groups in Natural Products Research (NatProDis) and Pharmacy education (PharmEd).
