I joined the Criminology team at LJMU in September 2011 having previously taught at the University of Central Lancashire. I was awarded a competitive scholarship by the University of Central Lancashire to undertake my PhD research and I was awarded my PhD in 2011. My doctoral thesis examined how multiple intersections of identity impact upon the experience of, and theoretical, political and practical responses to, violence against ethnicised women. These ideas, and others, are developed in my current research interests and activities, which include: the Policing of women, women’s involvement in social movements, women’s experiences of sexual coercion and violence, and the formation of identity and subjectivity. Alongside this, I have a keen interest in intersectional theory, critical social theory, feminist theory and processes of social control and abjection. I am Co-Director of the Centre for the Study of Crime, Criminalisation and Social Exclusion (with Professor Joe Sim).
